He applied for a job as a janitor at a large corporation and was invited for an interview. The HR manager offered him the job and asked, “Can you please give me your email address so that I can send all the documents to you?”””
The man replied, “I don’t have an email address or a computer for that matter.” The HR manager was shocked. “Then I apologize.” We can’t give you a job if you don’t have an email address. Thank you.”
He walked away shaking his head. He found a ten dollar bill in his wallet. Suddenly, an idea came to him. He went to the supermarket and bought ten pounds of apples and then sold them door to door. One hour later, he had $20, which he used to buy more apples. At the end of the day, he continued this process into the late evening. At the end of the day, he had $160 in his pocket.
The man sold door-to-door every day and developed an understanding of what people want and need. This gave him more business ideas and eventually, he could afford a bike, a delivery truck, and his own store. After a few years, he had his own chain of supermarkets.
As he grew older, he began to think about retirement and leaving something for his family. To find out how he could leave an inheritance, he consulted a financial advisor. Having finished all the financial planning, the advisor asked the man for his email address so he could send him all the documents. In response, the man said, “I have never owned a computer or had an email address. Please mail everything to me.”
“You built your entire empire without a computer or an email address?” the financial advisor asked in surprise. Imagine where you would be today if you had used them.”
“I’d be a janitor,” said the man.
